Renegades Knock Out the Power

The Alabama Renegades knocked out the Pensacola Power Saturday night in a close game by a score of 60-58.

The first half was all Pensacola as they led the Renegades 28-12. But in the second half, the Renegade offense and special teams came alive and secured the victory. Kicker Amy Hardeman kicked three perfectly placed onside kicks and Dana Sanders recovered all three kicks! The Renegades then scored on each ensuing offensive position.

Quarterback Nancy Byrd had a career night. She completed 17 of 35 passing attempts for 366 yards and 5 touchdowns. She also ran for 2 touchdowns. The wealth was spread among the Renegades receivers. Tight end Sandra Kerby had 6 receptions for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running back Marty Alber caught 5 passes for 71 yards and 2 touchdowns, and wide receiver Nikie Hunter scored a touchdown while catching 2 passes for 92 yards. Alber also racked up 128 yards in 6 attempts rushing for 2 touchdowns.

The Renegade defense had a hard time stopping a very potent Power rushing game, but were able to come up with some stops. Rookie linebacker Link Green and rookie defensive end Tiffany Colbert again had outstanding games on defense. Green had three solo tackles and four assists while Colbert had five solo tackles, one assist, and one fumble recovery. Linebacker Bird Gholston had four solo tackles and two assists. Defensive end Dana Sanders had three solo tackles with two assists, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.

The Renegades have their first home game of the season this Saturday, May 3. The Renegades will face the Cincinnati Sizzle for the first time ever. In addition, the Renegades will be playing at their new home field at Alabama A&M University. The game kicks off at 7pm. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for kids. Children 12 and under are free.

The Alabama Renegades are part of the National Women's Football Association (NWFA). There will be eight games played in the 2008 regular season. The team will travel to Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY, Chattanooga, TN, and Pensacola, FL. The NWFA is the largest league in the world for women's full contact football.
